Brendan McGrath

Brendan McGrath is a professional pianist, composer, and teacher from Amiskwaciwâskahikan, so- called Edmonton, Alberta, on Treaty 6 territory. As a player McGrath focuses on improvisation, primarily performing and recording as a solo improvising pianist, leader of a jazz piano trio, and interpreter of J.S. Bach. McGrath sees iconoclasm as a way to honour tradition, and strives to record and perform challenging interpretations of classical works, Jazz standards, and contemporary pieces.

McGrath earned his BMus from MacEwan University in Jazz and Pop Performance in 2017, studying with musicians like Chris Andrew, Kent Sangster, and Jim Head. McGrath is currently completing his MMus in classical piano performance, having studied piano under Dr. Patricia Tao. Currently McGrath is studying piano under Dr. Viktoria Reiswich-Dapp, and studying composition under Dr. Mark Hannesson.

As a pop and Rock keyboardist, McGrath performs as a member of the Peddletones, plays with Eamon McGrath, Justine Vandergrift, Aladean Kheroufi, and Calvin Love.
