Christianne Neves

Christianne Neves is a Brazilian jazz pianist, composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, and musical director. A passionate creative artist, Christianne has released four original instrumental music albums: Refúgio (2000), Duas Madrugadas (2005), Eyin Okan (2011) and Noite e Dias (2022). Her sophisticated compositions feature complex, unexpected harmonies and a rich texture of rhythms ranging from Latin American to African. She has also released two albums of arrangements: Andata e Ritorno (2014), with Italian and Brazilian artists and artistic production by Max de Tomassi of Italian network RAI, and Retalhos do Brasil (2017), a piano and voice collaboration with 13 Brazilian singers. 

Christianne performed as pianist in Brazil-based salsa bands Heartbreakers Orchestra and Havana Brasil (1994 to 2009). During her tenure with Heartbreakers Orchestra, she toured extensively throughout Europe participating in the Biennal of Dance of Lyon in France and concerts in Portugal and Curaçao (1998). With her work as a composer, Christianne performed in Scotland at the Jazz Now! festival (2000), in Punta Del Este at the Lapataia festival (2008), and held a piano solo concert in Finland at the Vantaa Festival Frutas Tropicales (2013).

As musical director to Brazilian singer Fernanda Porto, Christianne directed the Fernanda Porto: Ao Vivo concert and DVD with 30 musicians on stage (2006, São Paulo, Brazil), and later toured with the artist in Europe in a Duo format (2008-2013).  Since 2011, Christianne has performed consistently in Europe including at Ronnie Scott's in London, as guest international artist at the Nomos Jazz festival in Castellamare del Golfo, Sicilia (2014), and as the only Brazilian pianist at prestigious Pianocity Milano (2019) and Pianocity Napoli (2019, 2022).  Most recently, Christianne performed her original compositions at the Open Music Jazz Club in Comines, Belgium (2023). 

Last July, Christianne recorded with Italian label Alfa Music her seventh album, Abertura das Águas, featuring her Brazilian original music and arrangements, with expected release in early 2024. Her most recent touring project, Christianne Neves In Concert, with the Chris Neves Trio, features original compositions and inventive arrangements in a traditional jazz format. The tour kicked off in Brazil at Festival de Jazz de Sorocaba (Mar’ 23) and transitioned through venues such as at the iconic Blue Note São Paulo (Aug’ 23) and Sala do Porão at Ilhabela’s cinematic Vermelhos music complex (Nov’ 23), with plans for European and U.S. tours in 2024.  

A lifelong enthusiast of music education, Christianne conducted master classes on Brazilian music in several major cities in Italy, and is currently a professor at Conservatório Souza Lima/Berklee. Christianne holds a master's in Film Music by Unicamp, a Film Music certificate with Berklee, and a master’s in Brazilian Percussion by Faculdade Santa Marcelina. Recent recognition of Christianne’s work includes being a finalist at Prêmio Profissionais da Música as arranger and instrumentalist in 2018, 2019 and 2023.
