Eddie Gomez
His impressive resumé includes performances with jazz giants such as Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Evans, Gerry Mulligan, Benny Goodman, Buck Clayton, Marian McPartland, Paul Bley, Wayne Shorter, Jeremy Steig, Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, Chick Corea and Carli Muñoz. Time Magazine lauded: "Eddie Gómez has the world on his strings". Eddie Gómez would spend a total of eleven years with Bill Evans Trio which included performances throughout the United States, Europe, and the Orient, as well as dozens of recordings. Two of the Trio's recordings won Grammy awards. In addition, he was a member of the Manhattan Jazz Quintet.
His career mainly consists of working as an accompanist, a position suited for his quick reflexes and flexibility.
In addition to working as a studio musician for many famous jazz musicians, he has recorded as a leader for Columbia Records, Projazz and Stretch. Most of his recent recordings as a leader, are co-led by jazz pianist Mark Kramer.

Bill Evans: In Norway: The Kongsberg Concert
by Ian Patterson
The release of In Norway: The Konsberg Concert coincides with the sixtieth anniversary of the Konsberg Jazz Festival. Double cause for celebration. The steady flow of archival Evans recordings shows no signs of abating, with In Norway: The Konsberg Concert, recorded in 1970, coming hot on the heels of the previously unreleased Bill Evans: Behind The Dikes: The 1969 Netherlands Recordings (2021), Bill Evans: Treasures: Solo, Trio and Orchestra Recordings from Denmark (1965-1969) (2023) and Tales: Live in Copenhagen (1964) ...

by Dan McClenaghan
Pianist Bill Evans' career lasted from the late 1950s until his passing in 1980, but beginning around about 20 years into the 21st century CD releases under Evan's name have been rolling along at a brisk clip, thanks to the Resonance, Elemental and Ess- thetics Record labels. Zev Feldman, often called The Jazz Detective," has played a big part in this steady release of mostly laudable recordings, uncovering lost or shelved tapes of Evan's concerts, resulting in albums like Bill ...

by John Kelman
Intrepid percussionist/composer/bandleader Bill Bruford began his career in the late '60s art-rock arena with Yes and, later, King Crimson, but jazz has always moved underneath, like an eddying current. His early recordings, well documented on the companion Winterfold Collection, may not speak the language of jazz, but they possess its spirit. By 1986, Bruford was looking for a new path. Crimson had again dissolved, the 1981-'84 incarnation having provided him with the opportunity to explore nascent electronic drum ...

by Howard Mandel
Everything we remember is time past. How those memories live anew in the present is the subject of Time Remembered, pianist Bob Albanese's beautifully rendered solos and collaborations with bassist Eddie Gomez, drummer Willard Dyson, percussionist David Meade and (briefly on one track) Furmina the Wonderdog." It's a record of feeling which I hope will awaken a listener's private muse," says Albanese, a piano prodigy of Neptune, New Jersey who nowadays concertizes world-wide, accompanies notable artists across genres, ...

by Jack Bowers
Mixed emotions must underline this review. Center Stage, featuring bassist Eddie Gomez, drummer Steve Gadd and baritone saxophonist Ronnie Cuber with Germany's superb WDR Big Band conducted by Michael Abene, was recorded in Cologne in January and February 2022. Sadly, Ronnie Cuber passed away in October, shortly after the album was released. If this was Cuber's last hurrah, it thunders loudly above the rooftops, as his solos (on each of the album's nine numbers) and melodic passages ...

by Doug Collette
The quietude with which B Minor Waltz (For Ellaine)" opens You Must Believe In Spring belies the hearty homage this release constitutes in recognition of the title's forty-fifth anniversary. As a means of righteous and deserving tribute to his seventieth studio album, the late Bill Evans' debut for the Warner Bros. label is enhanced in a number of ways. First and foremost is the sonic upgrade for hybrid-SACD (as well as the vinyl LP configuration). Using the Plangent ...

by Stefano Merighi

Eddie Gomez - Per Sempre (2012)

Something Else!
Always an impressive technician, Gomez has an identifiably soulful soundsometimes from the very first plucking of his bass. That has carried him through an impressive array of settings, from traditional trios and fusion-infused amalgams all the way over into the delicate lyricisms of chamber jazz. The forthcoming Per Sempre fits squarely into the latter category, as Gomez settles into a program marked by sweet grace notes, diaphanous beauty but perhaps not enough variety. Recording in Bologna, Italy, Gomez is joined ...

Eddie Gomez: Everything I Want to Know About Jazz Bass

Everything I want to know about jazz bass, I can learn from Eddie Gomez. How the bassist sets the pulse, how the bassist keeps everyone in time, how the bassist sets the artistic tone and feel, how the bassist augments the melodic direction, how the bass can sing a line or become a chordal support system. The only thing I can't figure out from Eddie Gomez is why so many listeners" tune out during the bass solo. When Gomez solos, ...
