About Dan Papirany
Dan Papirany is an adventurous Jazz pianist, composer who understands and follows the eloquent philosophy that is to play melodic phrases and rich harmonies.
Originally starting out as a drummer at seventeen years of age, he discovered the music of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett's piano playing which led him to switch instruments to the piano. Recalling a quote from drummer Peter Erskine, play what you mean and mean what you play” opened up a whole new horizon as he began to play and record professionally as a serious musician.
Papirany studied jazz piano with Leigh Jackson in Wellington New Zealand and has performed at several Jazz festivals notably the EUROPAfest in Bucharest, Romania. This year Dan returned to Romania in May to be on a panel of judges at the international Jazz competition.
Papirany next recording features him in a duo setting with Vibeke Voller as well as a supporting band. The album entitled I Took A Chance will issued by Newmarket Music in Melbourne.
Look for Papirany and Voller at the Brisbane Jazz Club on July 8th.
