Jonatan Piña Duluc

Born in 1976 Jonatan Piña Duluc is a composer and multi-instrumentalist from the Dominican Republic. He has won the country`s most important composition competition the Premio Nacional de Música on six occasions on three different categories: Symphonic/Choral, Chamber music and Latin Dance music. Apart from these he has interests in Jazz, Rock, Latin Troubadour, Dominican folklore and everything eclectic. Influences go from Frank Zappa to Giorgy Ligueti, John Zorn, Luis Dias, Luis Alberto Spinetta, Living Colour, John Coltrane, Slayer, Juan Luis Guerra and many artists that you wouldn`t find in the same shelf of a record store. He is a member of the Afro-Dominican Jazz Collective and heads various musical projects like El Trio (rock band) and Proyecto Piña Duluc (Afro-Dominican jazz quartet), Jonatan Piña Duluc, his solo project.

On January 14 2021 Piña Duluc released independently his Third solo album called Soundtrack Vol. I, Secuencia. On this record like on the previous two, he was in charge of all the composition, playing, recording and overall production. The album is a collection of suites and pieces written for film or inspired by film as storytelling. It's style goes from quiet soundtrack type of avant-garde pieces to epic Afro-Dominican Jazzodelic Progressive movements. The idea is to release short stories that are the "scenes" that are inspired by the music or that have inspired the music on this album. They will be available later during the year. Multi-instrumentalist Jonatan Piña Duluc seems to rarely stand still—or even move in one single direction— in his Dominican Republic homeland, where he leads an Afro-Dominican jazz quartet and a hard rock band, and solo projects such as Soundtrack Vol. I -Secuencia, his third independent (completely) solo release.
