Matthew Storie

Matthew Storie is a jazz and classical saxophonist, teacher, and bandleader residing in Omaha, NE. He is Assistant Professor of Saxophone at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he teaches jazz and classical saxophone. He has formerly taught at institutions including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Furman University, and Anderson University. He has performed internationally in Latvia, Lithuania, and Spain and with jazz legends including Christian McBride, Ron Blake, Steve Wilson, Geoffrey Keezer,  the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Carl Allen, Stewart Copland, Brad Dutz, Jiggs Whigham, and Bob Moses. 

Matthew is the bandleader of Simply This Quintet which released their second album Stepping Up thanks to funding he received as the recipient of the Presser Graduate Award. He can also be heard on the album Liminality: Live at Smith 25  with the Jésus Fuentes Quartet. As a solo artist, Matthew has released his debut album, Hwy 538, which is comprised of his original compositions. 

Classically, Matthew is co-founder of the Payadora Trio. An ensemble comprised of saxophone, flute, and piano that commissions and performs works by underrepresented composers. 

Matthew is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he recevied a Masters degree in Jazz Performance and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Performance with a cognate in Classical Saxophone. Before moving to Illinois, he attended Furman University where he received a Bachelor of Music degree in  Saxophone Performance. His doctoral research resulted in the creation of a resource to aid college level classical saxophonists in developing a jazz sound.  Matthew's teachers have included Chip McNeill, Debra Richtmeyer, Tito Carillo, and Matt Olson.
