Nico Moreno

Guitarist and composer Nico Moreno is a young guitar player who currently resides in New York City. His playing is characterized by the convergence of different styles such as Latin American music, rock, and pop, deeply rooted in the jazz guitar tradition.

Nico began his guitar journey at the age of nine when his mother gifted him an acoustic guitar. He started playing rock and began performing at local venues when he was thirteen. His musical journey went from rock to heavy metal, progressive rock, fusion, and eventually jazz and Latin American music. He started to study jazz and improvisation at the age of seventeen and since then, he has been deeply inspired by the idea of composing in real-time and writing music inspired by the jazz and Latin American traditions.

Nico’s new album, Cornerstone, captures his journey of finding meaning in NYC. Featuring top NYC jazz musicians—Colin Stranahan (drums), Michael Kanan (piano), and Matt Stavrakas (double bass)—the record explores modern jazz guitar, blending Latin American sounds and pop-rock elements to reflect Nico’s diverse musical influences.

He had the honor of studying at New York University where he was accepted with a scholarship and a guitar teaching position, leading group and individual lessons to undergraduate students. He had the privilege to study with some of the most renowned jazz guitarists such as Peter Bernstein and John Schofield, also the great bass player Michael Richmond, the pianist Michael Wolff, and the great composer, trombonist, and arranger Alan Ferber.

Nico has led multiple musical projects during his career, with his own trio and quartet being among the main ones. He has performed extensively in his native city Bogota and some venues in New York City. He is currently teaching, working on new music, and performing around the city.
