All About Jazz's first ever reader's poll is in the books with nearly 4,000 of our 191,000 members casting votes for their favorite places to hear live jazz. For those keeping score, that's somewhere in the ballpark of a 2% turnout. Good, but not great, though we knew the challenges going in: it was our first poll, it required a sign up or sign in, and we had to overcome the dubious perception of internet polls. Regarding the latter, I received an email from someone early on asking me if the poll was a scam. :-) The good news is several venues saw the value in it, vouched for us by spreading the word, which drove turnout.

In terms of results, many venues that ranked in the top 100 were well known, though there were some unexpected appearances and I was pleasantly surprised to discover some very cool places that present jazz. In addition to the top 100, we also provide top lists by US-only, by non US-only and by city. Results by city should prove particularly useful to business travelers and vacationers; perhaps musicians will discover new places to perform.

So congratulations to the top 100 venues! Our email notifying you of your award should have arrived by now—if you don't see it, check your spam folder. As an additional token of thanks, a few venues that helped raise the awareness of the poll will receive a complimentary year of our premium venue page promotional service.

Of the 26,766 venues listed in our database, the following received the most votes:

Building the ultimate jazz poll

It took us a couple of months to develop the polling platform and we're thrilled with the results: it represents a fun way to engage our members while providing meaningful information to all. The platform will serve us for years to come and allow us to quickly present new polls, including the top record labels poll. Coming soon!
