Tim Weir
In the USA he has performed with Celia Cruz, Tito Puente Jnr, Joe Lovano, Bob Mintzer, David Liebman, Bobby Shew, Jim McNeely, Dennis Mackrell, Michael Brecker, Sam Rivers, John Fedchock, Arturo Sandoval, Bill Watrous, and Paquito D’Rivera as well as many commercial artists such as The Funk Brothers, The Osmond Family, Jack Jones and Tony Orlando.
He has appeared with the Key West Pops, The Sunshine Pops Orchestra and the Miami Chamber Orchestra supporting numerous artists and has made regular appearances on television with several Miami bands. Dr. Weir has been a member of the Canberra Symphony (Australia) and the Venetian Brass (Miami, FL). Additionally, he has a burgeoning lead trumpet career and travels often for engagements throughout the USA.
Dr. Weir, originally from Australia, has been teaching and performing in the USA for six years. Prior to moving to the USA he was an active performer and teacher in Canberra, Australia. He taught public high school music for four years, coordinating several band programs, and enjoyed an extensive studio of applied students in addition to his performance schedule. Upon moving to the USA, Dr. Weir has continued to teach in higher education in Florida and Virginia.
His manuscript, Kenny Dorham’s Improvisational Language is currently in review for publication and features over 50 transcriptions. Dr. Weir is an active member of the International Jazz Educators Association, he is on the board of the Australian Trumpet Guild, and he is currently on the steering committee for the International Trumpet Guild Chapter in Australia for the 2010 conference.
